Wholegrain Digital started life as Scamper in 2007, driven by our belief that business can be a positive force for change in the world.

We’d always dreamed of building our own design company. For the first few months, we focused purely on graphic and brand design; WordPress wasn’t even on our radar. However, it soon became clear that everybody needs a website, and after some experimentation we discovered WordPress. Our clients loved it and we loved its potential. So we specialised in WordPress design and development, and we haven’t looked back since.

We changed our name to Wholegrain Digital in 2011, as we felt the name summed up our philosophy, mission and values perfectly. And we continued working on positive projects with positive brands.

Over the last ten years, we’ve worked on major projects and have ongoing relationships with many positive organisations, including clients we’d dreamed of working with when we set out. We now generate roughly 50% of our revenue from what we term positive brands and the remaining 50% from neutral brands, meaning none of our revenue comes from what we consider to be destructive industries.

In 2017, we had two big celebrations. We celebrated our ten-year anniversary and achieved Certified B Corps status, an independent, rigorous assessment of our social and environmental responsibility. We did this while maintaining financial sustainability for a decade, proving that people, the planet and profit can go hand in hand.
