Wholegrain Digital’s Health & Safety Policy demonstrates our commitment to creating a hazard-free workplace, and details how we meet our health and safety obligations for our employees and anybody who visits Somerset House or is affected by our work.

This Health & Safety Policy is applicable to all current and prospective members of the Wholegrain team, as well as contractors and anybody we come into contact with on Wholegrain business.

Your Responsibilities

When we’re working at Somerset House, our hosts are responsible for the overall health and safety of the premises and for carrying out the relevant risk assessments. That said, each and every one of us has a responsibility for achieving safe working conditions and following safe working practices.

Please keep your eyes peeled for hazards around the office, such as trailing wires or bag straps. If you see something that could be dangerous, either fix it, if safe to do so, or advise the hosts immediately so they can deal with the issue. Please follow all safety rules and guidelines at Somerset House and follow instructions for the safe use of equipment.

If an accident happens, report it immediately to one of the hosts who will call a first aider and record the incident in the accident book.

You must cooperate with our hosts on all health & safety issues, including the investigation of any incidents. Failure to do so could be considered misconduct and dealt with under the disciplinary procedure.

When you’re working from home, it’s your responsibility to carry out relevant health and safety checks where you’re working and ensure that your workspace is set up safely and comfortably for you.

Fire Safety

Everybody working at our offices should familiarise themselves with the fire safety instructions, which are displayed on noticeboards and close to fire exits.

If you hear the fire alarm, please head to the nearest fire exit and make your way out of the building in a safe, calm manner. Always use the stairs during an emergency; never use the lifts. Once you’re out of the building follow the security staff to the nearest assembly point, and wait for them to give you further instructions. Never wander off without reporting that you’re safely out of the building, and please don’t return to the premises until the all clear has been given.

The fire alarm is tested every Monday morning at 9:30 am. Remain calm and do not leave the building, unless advised to do so.

Training

It’s our responsibility to ensure you have been given the necessary training and supervision to perform your work duties.

Health & Safety at Work Act (1974)

Wholegrain Digital complies with the Health & Safety at Work Act (1974) and any subsequent amendments or recommendations by the Health and Safety Executive. If there are any amendments you need to be aware of, we’ll ensure you receive the correct information along with any necessary training in a timely manner.

This policy doesn’t form part of your contract of employment, and we reserve the right to amend it at any time. We’re also committed to reviewing the policy on a regular basis to ensure it remains effective and relevant.
